Angling & Surfing
Angling
If you like fishing, then you will have an abundance of lochs, rivers and burns as well as an extensive coast, all on your doorstep. Just take a look at the map. Our local club, the Rosses Anglers, is one of the biggest and best organised in the country (www.rossesanglers.com). The club welcomes visitors and hosts many competitions. There are even extra facilities for the ambulant disabled on one special loch which boasts many 4 kilo rainbow trout in its waters. We will get you set up to fish in an hour or so. Glorious scenery, great fishing, lots of craic, what more do you want?
For those who fancy sea angling, charter boats are available from nearby Burtonport (Alt an Chorrain) harbour and give access to some magnificent coastal fishing. In the words of John Rafferty, renowned sea-angling specialist, journalist and photographer “This place has got to be heaven for sea anglers. I have fished all around the coast of this country and I still have found no place that can fish better than the fishing from Burtonport and to see the growing number of anglers from all over Europe who come fishing here annually I am not alone”. Again, just let us know what you want to do, and we’ll get you sorted out.
Surfing & Diving
Donegal is considered the best surfing territory in Western Europe. So, come either to learn or to show off on our extensive strands. There are surfing schools at various places along the coast. We’ll put you in touch with one, if you like. Divers can also get going at various diving centres which gladly welcome the tyro and the expert. We’ve never tried it, but we know lots who have, and they come back again and again.
